It is so hard to stay positive when you don't feel good about yourself or constantly over thinking about things that are worrying you or causing anxiety so i have come up with a few tips that may help you stay positive and reduce the amount of time you spend over thinking or feeling crap about yourself.
Over thinking literally gets you no where and only causes you to come up with problems that weren't even there in the first place and can get you into a very deep, dark hole that you just cant get out of. What i have done to prevent this is start meditation. I found a book called Mindfulness a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world, it came with a CD as well with different types of meditation to control your breathing so you are in the moment and not in your thoughts. It's surprising how much time we spend in our thoughts whether that's daydreaming or worrying and over thinking events or things coming up when we should be living life in that moment, experiencing everything around us. Its an 8 week plan where you practise different types of meditation everyday and put these practises into real life. After completing 4 weeks of meditation i had already adapted controlling my mind and not completely because we are always going to worry about things but stopped myself from over thinking things because i knew that in a year from now that this thing will not matter so i'm just wasting my time. Meditation has completely helped me in so many ways from stopping myself from over thinking, getting myself back into the moment after trailing off in my thoughts, being a nicer person and letting things go. After doing meditation for so long i still get lost in my own thoughts and still love to daydream but i have learnt how to get back in the moment when i need to be. I advise meditation to everyone because it helps the mind and is better and healthier than any kind of medication it just needs a lot of practise and time to get used to it but when you are you can adapt it into your daily activities whether that's doing it on the bus, walking to work, on your lunch break or even just before you go to sleep.
Another tip i would give to everyone and i'm sure this won't be a popular suggestion but it will work and that is to exercise because it makes you feel good, keeps you motivated throughout the day, energises you. If you suffer with insomnia like me then it can help you get to sleep better because you're working your body more in the day which will make it easier to get a good nights sleep and keep you refreshed for the next day. I promise you that no matter how much you don't feel like exercising once you've done it you will feel so much better. Exercise makes me feel alive and it is actually quite addictive after you get into a routine to do it everyday. It's understandable to not really enjoy it the first few days but once you've learnt to do it everyday and make yourself do it you will love it. You will feel better in yourself because your working your body and constantly improving your health, you will appreciate your body more because you'll be more toned and feel stronger. By exercise i literally mean anything such as yoga, walking, running, workout DVD, cycling to work and going to the gym. There's so much variety you will literally never get bored. Exercise doesn't just mean losing weight and toning your body, it's about feeling good about yourself because it helps the mind as well as the body.
As well as exercising i would also say eat healthier whether that's just adding a few extra fruit and veg into your diet or eat them instead of unhealthy snacks such as chocolate, crisps or sweets. I would never say don't eat chocolate or any kind of junk just slightly limit them and try things such as home made smoothies, dried fruits, banana chips or yoghurt coated raisins. Ever since i got a smoothie maker i have to have one smoothie a day because they are so healthy and you are putting about 3 portions of fruit in your body at one time, to make them extra healthier i add honey instead of sugar and orange juice as the liquid. I also try and have healthier snacks that are tasty as well as healthy. If you really don't like eating healthily i would say eat things such as chocolate coated raisins and gluten free cake because you can't really tell that these foods are good for you because they are so tasty. If you crave things such as cake or chocolate then eat it because nothing is worse than not being able to eat what you want just add a few feel good foods in your diet and have healthier meals. Eating healthier does improve your skin, hair, keeps you feeling energised, helps you sleep better and stops you feeling sluggish or bloated.
Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed :)
